All Buttoned Up |
A style blog for the tweedy and erratic. I love leopard print and Alexander McQueen more than is probably normal. My own outfits can be found under this tag. My main blog is prologi. |
Shirt: Lindex
Leather skirt: hand-me-down from my aunt
Shoes: Billi Bi via Korkkari 37
Necklace: Macy’s
Belt: Promod
Looking back, this outfit is like one part secretary one part edgy. I can live with that. This looked better before I put on the dark tights, but the weather’s still much too cold to consider bare legs.
The tights are actually navy, and the necklace has alternating silver spikes and fake pearls. Natural light what is that. I also let my hair air-dry before I went at it with product, which is why it looks a little softer than usual.
Shirt: Tramp, from Century 21
Sweater: H&M
Earrings: gift from a friend
Rings: also H&M, came in a set of 5
Frames: Ray-Ban
Didn’t get a full shot of this outfit, but I was only wearing black jeans so these are the important bits anyway. Let’s ignore how translucently pale I am.
I love the shirt - it’s got kind of a cowboy vibe, but not overwhelmingly so, and I like matching rings etc to the collar tips. (Also, my lipstick matches my nails, because I like pink.)
Coat: Old Navy, thrifted
Jeans: Zara
Skates: Risport
Hat: tax free shop on a cruise ship
Scarf: hand-knit
Pins on coat: Laila Rowe and a random NYC dollar store
Gloves: Seppälä
Fashion… on ice! Me and my sister went out to try a short skating course the city’s made on the frozen sea. It’s around freezing today and it snowed, so conditions were less than optimal, but I still had fun. And I didn’t fall once!
My skates are Risport’s Etoile model, which is a really nice basic figure skating boot and blade combo if you’re just starting out or only skate casually. I used mine weekly for years, and only recently upgraded to a stiffer boot and a much better blade. I only use those on indoor arenas, because there are always bits of grit outside, and you’re less likely to attempt anything complicated.
Blazer: Zara
T-Shirt: from a Frank Turner show
Jeans: Uniqlo
Shoes: Steve Madden
Bag: Cambridge Satchel Co
Earrings: Laila Rowe
Necklace: Macy’s
Bracelet: Maison Martin Margiela for H&M
Parts of this outfit I bought on a recent trip to New York: necklace, earrings (both 70% off, whee!), jeans, shoes, nailpolish. These are my favourite kinds of souvenirs.
This blazer is such a perfect colour, you guys. And the sleeves roll up just right to show my new-ish wrist tattoo! (It’s a bee, because bees are bros and also Sherlock Holmes retired to become a beekeeper so clearly they’re cool.) I think the studded/spiky accessories add just enough of an edge to keep the whole thing from sliding too far into preppy territory for my tastes.
Blazer: Zara
Shirt: Lindex
Jeans: JC
Shoes: Vagabond
Earrings: H&M
Rainbow badge: Helsinki Pride
Watch: Swatch
Mug: KeepCup via Unicafe (chain of campus restaurants), plus a red Colbert Report WristStrong charity bracelet thing
I wore this outfit to a casual interview/making sure I’m not a psychotic freakazoid meeting for a part-time job at an industry magazine. It went well, so I’m giving the combo of this top and blazer a lot of credit. I got the blazer at like 50% off, so the colour more than makes up for the fact that double-breasted jackets are not my friend.
Sweater: Lindex
Shirt: Vero Moda
Jeans: JC
Boots: Clarks
This is my “I’m underslept and slightly hung over but I have to look vaguely professional in front of people who might pay me in the future” outfit.
I picked this jumper up on a whim without even bothering to try it on. It fits perfectly, and is the only knit I have with a neckline that plays nice with button-downs. There’s a bunch of huge black plastic kinda-tacky-mostly-awesome gems around the yoke, and the shirt has black binding on the collar and the button placket. This is the kind of detail you miss because I have a shitty camera and a flat with exactly one window.
Dress: H&M
Shoes: Irregular Choice
Belt: Promod
Earrings: H&M
Cuff: Missoni for Lindex
Clutch: Lumi
I got the chance to dress up a bit for sitsit, which is a Finnish student tradition that involves cocktail attire, a three-course sit-down dinner, and so many drinking songs and toasts you don’t have time to finish any of the food.
I kind of adore this dress. It’s unusual and cool and looks kind of Alexander McQueen-y and it has big cut-outs around the shoulder blades. Even though the fabric is a thick, stiff polyester, it’s relatively comfortable to wear and not unflattering, so that’s great. I got a few compliments on it, and a ton on the new cuff, yay.
You can’t really see my ridicuawesome earrings in the big photo because of motion blur (they weigh a ton, you can really get a feel for the physics of pendulums while wearing them), and basically I wanted to show off my favourite bright pink lipstic, so here’s an unfocused picture of my face. This is basically as made-up as I ever get, which means I spend fifteen minutes getting ready instead of the usual one to three.

Sweatshirt: H&M
Jeans: JC
Shoes: Clarks
Backpack: Jansport (label removed by me because it was hideous)
Earrings: H&M
Bracelet: Promod
Sorry about the terrible lighting; I didn’t have time to take pictures before leaving for class and it was dark by the time I got back. Ah, the north. Of course that means you can’t actually see the badass dangly earrings, which were basically the reason I wanted to post this outfit in the first place. Those and the excellent hair day. You can see them a bit better in this bus stop self-portrait, also featuring my hipsterriffic Urbanears headphones.
This sweatshirt is brilliant, because it’s interesting and colourful but not too much for my ultra-casual campuses. I bought the backpack at the beginning of term, when I realised how much stuff I would have to carry on a daily basis. I love my satchels, but they have their limits. Also, easy pattern mixing!
Shirt: H&M
Jeans: Zara
Shoes: Clarks
Cuff: thrifted
I’m a lumberjack and I’m okay…
This outfit is so damn comfortable. The jeans are pretty loose and made of heavily washed soft denim, and the shirt is double-layered thin chambray.
I accidentally dressed up as Dean Winchester today. I didn’t have whiskey, so I accessorised with vodka and aggressive self-loathing.
T-shirt: H&M
Shirt: Lindex
Jeans: Zara
Boota: Clarks
Dogtag necklace: Efva Attling
Leather cuff: thrifted
Shirt: H&M
Jeans: Uniqlo, thrifted
Shoes: Vagabond
Scarf: Beck Söndergaard, via Not Another Bill
Cuff: thifted
Bag: Cambridge Satchel Company
Simple errand-running outfit. I mostly wanted to point out how much I love this bag and these shoes. Practical and awesome!
Shirt: Lindex
Jeans: Zara (more than half off, yay)
Shoes: Vagabond
Watch: Swatch
Belt: Promod
Words I never thought I’d say: I bought a pair of distressed wide-leg boyfriend jeans. Because, on top of being inspiring and a stone cold babe, Rachel Maddow is also my fashion icon.
The jeans may not be the most flattering, objectively speaking, but I love them, and goddamn are they comfy.
Sometimes I get out of my quirky vintage car, carrying a reusable shopping bag full of vegetarian food, looking like this, and kind of want to punch myself in the face for being such a giant fucking hipster.
Hat: Lindex
Shirt: H&M, boys’ department
Shorts: KappAhl jeans with the legs cut off
Sandals: Clarks
Cuff: Promod
Watch: Swatch
Shirt: Vero Moda
Tie: KappAhl, boys’ department
Tie pin: old earring (so, you know, utterly nonfunctional)
Jeans: JC
Belt: KappAhl
Shoes: Clarks
I’m kind of in love with this shirt and the outfit as a whole made me feel like I was in costume as Karl Lagerfeld. Like, in a good way.
